“The first step is always the hardest, but it’s the only way to reach the second step.”
— Susan Gale
It’s Wednesday.
Which in my head means translates as this – “Oh, I should probably start on a Monday”.
Yeah there is no stopping a mind actively looking for excuses to postpone work.
But I guess the fact that I set up a blog and a Twitter and an Insta handle yesterday made it all too real for me. I mean, I already posted everywhere that my journey has begun, so how could I put it on hold for 5 whole days?
Call me crazy, but social media gets me going.
And so, here we are. The first day of my journey!
One of my closest friends suggested that I try Intermittent Fasting for burning fat. The process sounded pretty neat to me, and hell, I never stick to portion control any way, so why not give this new diet a try.
The basic idea behind Intermittent Fasting is that you put your body through alternating periods of feasting and fasting. There are multiple ways to do that, but I have opted for the Leangains method.
In this method, you alternate between feasting and fasting every day by splitting the day into 8 hours – 16 hours intervals. Eat during the 8 hour period and fast for 16. Simple, isn’t it?
Okay maybe not that simple, but it is doable. The 16 hour period includes sleeping as well, and effectively strikes out one meal from the day. The fasting period can be increased or decreased as well, based on how comfortable you are with fasting.
For now, I have chosen 9 am to 3 pm as my feasting time, since that covers breakfast and lunch, and I guess dinner and evening snacks would be easier to let go. So that makes it a 6 hours – 18 hours interval for me.
Today went pretty good, fasting wise. There were moments when I felt hungry, yes, but I kept myself sufficiently hydrated. That helped a lot!
The most difficult part was to convince myself to actually begin the Intermittent Fasting today. There is always an excuse not to do it today. But somehow I did. And you know what? I feel good!
Let’s hope it continues to be that way! 🙂
